Sustainability and respect for nature during northern lights hunting

The Northern Lights are one of nature's most spectacular displays, but in order to continue to enjoy this phenomenon, we must all take responsibility for protecting the environments where the Northern Lights appear. At Swedish Wilderness Adventures AB, sustainability is not only part of our brand, but a fundamental principle that permeates all our activities. When we organize northern lights hunts, we do so with the greatest possible respect for both nature and the local communities in which we operate.

1. Minimize your environmental impact

When you go out into nature to hunt the northern lights, it is important to minimize your impact on the environment. This can be done by following some simple but effective guidelines:

  • Stay on marked trails: Avoid trampling vegetation or disturbing wildlife by sticking to marked trails and paths.
  • Pack in, unpack: Everything you take with you into nature, you should also take out with you. This includes trash, food scraps and other equipment. Leave the area as untouched as you found it.
  • Respect wildlife: The northern lights can often be seen in remote and untouched places where animals live in their natural habitats. It is important to observe wild animals from a distance and not disturb their habitat.

2. Use sustainable transport options

Transportation to and from the starting points of the northern lights hunt can have a significant environmental impact, especially if you are traveling long distances. We encourage our guests to choose sustainable transport options:

  • Public transport and carpooling: If possible, use public transport or carpool with other participants to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
  • Local accommodation: Stay in nearby, environmentally certified accommodation to reduce the need for long transport.

3. The "Leave No Trace" principle

We follow the "Leave No Trace" principle in all our activities, and we encourage our guests to do the same. This principle means that we leave no trace of our presence in nature, which helps to preserve the environment for future generations.

  • Plan and prepare: By carefully planning your Northern Lights hunt, you can avoid having to take unplanned actions that could harm the environment.
  • Avoid making fires: Unless absolutely necessary, avoid making fires. If a fire is necessary, use an already established fire pit and make sure the fire is completely extinguished before leaving the site.

4. Respect for local cultures and communities

The northern lights are often seen in areas where Sami communities have lived in harmony with nature for centuries. It is important that we as visitors respect their culture and traditions.

  • Show respect and consideration: Respect local traditions and follow the guidelines offered by Sami guides and communities.
  • Support local businesses: By choosing local guides and accommodations, you support the communities that care for these areas.

5. Participate in sustainable experiences

We strive to offer sustainable and environmentally friendly experiences. When you choose to participate in a Northern Lights hunt with us, you can be sure that the activity is planned with care for the environment and sustainability in mind.

  • Small Groups: We keep our groups small to minimize impact on the environment and to ensure a more personalized experience.
  • Education: During our tours, we inform about sustainability principles and how you can contribute to protecting nature during your visit.

By following these guidelines, we can all contribute to preserving the beautiful landscapes where the Northern Lights appear, so that future generations can also experience this magical part of our nature. Sustainability is not only about protecting nature for today, but also about ensuring that its beauty and richness remain for tomorrow.
